Summary
The Treaty of Rapallo was a treaty between Germany and Russia. This allowed for German troops to train in Russia. In exchange for this, military goods were exchanged between the two countries. Fearing another war, France, Belgium, and Poland all signed the Treaty of Mutual Assistance. This treaty claimed that if Germany made a move on France, the other countries involved in the treaty would make an effort to help defend. The Locarno Pact in 1925 was a pact that would begin a period of optimism in Europe. This was dubbed the "Spirit of Locarno". This pact guaranteed the solidity of European borders and was signed by Britain, France, Belgium, Italy and Germany. It also demilitarizes the Rhineland. The Kellog-Briand Pact was a pact signed by 15 nations including USA, Germany and Russia denouncing war as a method of solving disputes internationally. Disarmament was one of the final acts before the second world war. It was an attempt to demilitarize Europe, especially Russia, and ultimately proved irrelevant.
