Summary
By taking control of these small islands that were in the possession of Japan the Americans were hoping to have bases in which they could launch Bombers and attack Japanese Cities. Tokyo saw the wrath of the Bombers the most, the US started to do fire bombing raids. First they would deploy heavy shells that made large damage and destroyed the gas lines. then they would drop fire bombs that would cause massive fires, there last offensive would drop shrapnel bombs that made it so people could not go and fight the fires. Using these tactics they caused many Japanese deaths.
