Summary
Mao Zedong fled China, and following this, he began to rebuild the Chinese Communist Party. His ideals were to build the party on peasantry, avoiding and becoming void of urban workers to deal with. Chiang fought against the CCP and tried to rid them from their stronghold even as the Japanese began to invade Manchuria.
During the Long March, Mao led his Red Army on a 9000 km retreat across China. This also acted as a 9000km campaign for his position within the government. However, along this march, he lost 3/4 of his army. They would settle in the north of China, specifically Shensi, where he would form the Yenan Soviet. The Chinese Communist Party would begin to gain power due to their resistance of the Japanese.
