Summary
The Berlin Blockade began with the currency reforms that took place in West Germany. Being accessible only through a single highway and railway, the Russians blocked off the transportation routes into Berlin. At this point, the allies had to decide whether they would give up Berlin or take other action. This was when it became apparent that War was an option. Due to this blockade, the Berlin Airlift became a crucial link between West Germany and Berlin. During the Berlin Airlift, the Us decided to use a massive airlift to supply the Western half of the city. One aircraft would land every two minutes for fifteen months during this incredible feat of airforce.
