Summary
In reaction to the Soviet influence, Hungary was the first major revolt in a satellite state. The Hungarian leader, Imre Nagy, announced that he was pulling out of the Warsaw Pact. WIth tanks and armed forces, the soviets proceeded to enter the Capital of Hungary, Budapest. Here, 30,000 Hungarians are killed, and 200,000 fled the country for the west. For 20 years, a new leader that the soviets had installed in Hungary would follow the Soviet line in Hungary. His name was Janos Kadar. This event caused people to question why the US did not help the Hungarians.
