Summary
The Manhattan Project was the name given to the American plan to develop nuclear weapons to use against threatening countries during the Second World War. The development of these weapons would produce the first ever nuclear bombs that the world had seen. It was with the support of the United Kingdom and Canada that the United States would lead the project. The program was run by Robert Oppenheimer, and managed to produced three bombs that would be used at the end of the Second World War. Trinity, Little Boy and Fat Man were the names that were given to these deadly weapons. "Little Boy" was a uranium bomb that was used against the Japanese and detonated over Hiroshima. "Fat Man" was a plutonium bomb dropped on Nagasaki. The results of these bombs were catastrophic, and it was decided in the post-war years that nuclear weapons would be outlawed internationally.
