Summary
In 1979 the soviet armed forces invaded Afghanistan and tried to take over the country as they wanted to expand south. But they were not anticipating the amount of resistance that the were greeted with. Much of that resistance was supported by the United States, and in order to try and defeat the Afghan forces they sent approximately 100,000 troops by 1985. But after much bloodshed and battles the Soviet forces were forced to withdraw.
