Summary
On April 8 and 9, Hitler invades Denmark and Norway. This invasion had two purposes. The Germans were after the steel that came from Sweden, so, in the defence of this steel, the British land in Norway declaring their help for Finland. The second purpose that Hitler had for this invasion was to gain a much more forward base for German U-Boats. This invasion bred the word "Quisling," which refers to someone who works with the enemy instead of against. After this invasion, all the Norwegian shipping becomes the domain of the British.
In the neutral Low Countries, Hitler begins his attack on May 10, 1940. It takes a very short amount of time for these countries to surrender, taking only four days for the Netherlands, 18 for Belgium, and 2 for Luxembourg. The British make serious efforts to defend these countries, but they arrive too late.
