To what extent are the problems in the Middle East a product of anti-Semitism, and to what extent are they a product of Nationalism?
The Middle East has a vast variety of religions such as Judaism, Christianity, and Muslim. The anti-Semitism problem in the Middle East was caused mainly from the Israeli-Palestinian-Arab conflict. However, not all conflicts in the Middle East are from anti-Semitism, some are from nationalism and other issues.
Anti-zionism was the start of anti-semitism. Anti-Zionism is broadly defined as the opposition to the idea of an establishment of a Jewish state in Palestine. Some people compare anti-semitism in the Middle East to anti-semitism during Hitler's Nazi Regime. After the Nazi regime over 6 million people were killed, leaving many people with out a home or many family members. This lead them in need of a new homeland, a place to start over where they could feel safe again. This lead to the creation of of the first Jewish state in 1948. "Antisemitism in the Arab world has increased greatly in modern times, for many reasons: the breakdown of the Ottoman Empire and traditional Islamic society; European influence, brought about by Western imperialism and Christian Arabs; Nazi propaganda resentment over Jewish nationalism that led to the colonization of the Ottoman Empire's southern Syrian province; and the rise of Arab nationalism. The rise of political Islam during the 1980s and afterwards provided a new mutation of Islamic antisemitism, which gave the hatred of Jews a religious component." (Wikipedia, 2015).
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict contributes to the anti-Semitism problem in the Middle East greatly. However, some people would like to argue that calling an Arab anti-Semitic was just another way to avoid dealing with the conflict and resolving issues.
Not only did anti-semitism cause conflict but the establishment of Israel did too. In order to create Israel many Palestinians' were forced out other their own homes. This caused strong nationalism which lead to terror attacks from both sides.
Both anti-Semitism and nationalism can be put to blame for causing major conflict in the Middle East.
